Key Skills

Key Skills are skills that are commonly needed for success in a range of activities in education and training, work and life in general.

The Key Skills qualifications aim to develop and recognise candidates' abilities to apply these skills in ways that are appropriate to different contexts, in order to improve the quality of learning and performance. They are intended for everyone, from pupils in school to chief executives in large companies, however are mostly used in schools and FE colleges.

We're pleased to offer 6 Key Skills at Levels 1 to 4:

• Communication
• Application of Number
• Information and Communication Technology
• Working with Others
• Improving Own Learning and Performance
• Problem Solving.

We also offer the Adult Literacy and Numeracy qualifications from Entry Level to Level 2.

Basic Skills

Basic Skills are the primary skills needed by adults to get on in life such as reading, writing and number skills. Basic Skills are only offered at Entry Level, Level 1 and Level 2.

NCFE offer the following Basic Skills qualifications:

NCFE Entry Level Certificate in Adult Literacy (including Spoken Communication)
NCFE Level 1 Certificate in Adult Literacy
NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Adult Literacy
NCFE Entry Level Certificate in Adult Numeracy
NCFE Level 1 Certificate in Adult Numeracy
NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Adult Numeracy
NCFE Entry Level Certificate in ICT.

Key Skills to Basic Skills transfer

We now offer the transfer of candidate(s) from Level 1 and/or 2 Communication and/or Application of Number to the NCFE Level 1 and/or 2 Certificate in Adult Literacy and/or Numeracy, where the centre is approved for the relevant qualification and candidates have successfully completed the relevant Key Skills test paper. This transfer is free of charge and can be carried out by your Centre Support Assistant.
